Is the truth and nothing but the truth?

Beanie Sigel The Truth

Have you ever heard someone say,“the truth will set you free”? Then see someone speak the truth in return receive shaming, denial, invalidation and ridicule?

Is the truth a lie and a lie the truth or is that what social power wants the rest of society to believe?

According to the 2025 statical data shows on average people are relatively honest. 75% People reported they tell zero lies. I find this very interesting because , how can they verify if the person is lying while they are saying they don’t ?

Not all of the research led to 0-1 white lie/big lie, some additional evidence shows the highest number to be 4 lies per day. The frequency of lies varies from 1 to 2 lies per day to 10-15 depending on the context. Over the course of collecting data it was found the percentage of lying depends on the category of the lie- little white lie,big lie. 90% are Little white lies were told to keep social peace and harmony. 11% are big lies with great consequence.

Overall each lie is told for a specific purpose at least that’s what is believed.

How does the truth or lie appear in art?

Art can be the most truthful reflection of society. All the fears, pain, suffering, joys, happiness are connected and contorted into an easily digestible message/story. A Perfect representation of how art is a window into authenticity is music.

There are several lyrics and song titles speaking about A TRUTH of some kind. The processes of exploring what the truth is and how to express is taxing , and yet liberating. Artist who are willing to explore the facts of their past packaged in a beautiful bop provide a quick but brief detour to discovering a certain truth for the listener. In hip-hop lyrics a lot of “truths” discovered are rarely implemented but regardless culture learns. Beanie Sigal is an artist who’s embraced his truth of his up and downs. He recently started a partnership with Santuccis Original Square Pizzeria to add to his growing culinary Portfolio. His song The truth on his freshman album Beanie Sigal The Truth.

Chorus]

Nigga, the truth, every time I step in the booth

I speak the truth, y'all know what I'm bringing to you

I bring the truth, you motherfuckers know who I be

I be the truth, what I speak shall set you free

Nigga, the truth

[Verse 2]

Ain't nothin' changed with Sig, I'm still stuck in the kitchen

So what I'm signed? That's fine, still stuck in position

His truth has stayed consistent making things happen from the kitchen. He knew he was more than the stereotyping society pushed. Unfortunately, becoming famous didn’t turn everything around; it has taken time, truth, and accountability to end the cycle of self-destruction.

What is truth?

By definition, truth is the body of real things, events, and facts (Merriam-Webster dictionary). What are FACTS- something that actually exists or occurs: an actual event, situation, etc.

The word truth is Middle English (West Saxon ) “faithfulness, faith, kin, fidelity to country, friends; loyalty; disposition to be faithful; veracity, quality of being true; pledge, covenant." The belief is a reconstruction of Germanic treuwaz “having or characterized by good faith”. By 14c -“that which is righteous or in accordance with divine standard; true religious doctrine; virtuous conduct." In 1560’s the definition evolved into "accuracy, correctness, conformity of thought with fact".

What is it about the lie humanity can’t shake?

Behavioral science points to cognitive bias. Negative Parental reactions during child development.

What is cognitive bias?

Cognitive bias is when humans think in certain patterns, creating systematic deviations from rational judgment. Every human has had/had or is currently experiencing some form of cognitive bias. It’s formed from these tendencies:

  • Information processing shortcuts

  • The limited processing ability of the brain

  • Emotional and moral motivations

  • Distortions in storing and retrieving memories

  • Social influence

The list above is a very small snippet of all the cognitive bias humans experience.

Speaking and living authentic/ truthfully is a positive impact to an individual’s health. In psychology today article references a 2015 review article, constant lying is associated with an array of unhealthy outcomes including high blood pressure, increased heart rate, vasoconstriction, and elevated stress hormones in the blood.

Further Studies like kids.frontiersin.org : “The main findings from psychology and economics show that many people are willing to lie to gain something, like money, but they usually settle for relatively small lies.”

The die-under-the cup experiment was conducted to keep natural human behavior genuine.

The researchers learned children and young adults are pretty honest. Only a few percent would tell a white lie if it increase their chances of being rewarded. Also they would only lie if they felt they could get away with it.

Recall the question of how lies shows up in art, it highlights the lie unless, the artist intentions to gain attention for increased revenue (reward). There’s a social modality and financial incentive to continue being en authentic.

“We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth at least the truth that is given us to understand. The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies.” (Pablo Picasso)

Application

Truth is authentic , humanity is truth it’s fact. People are here to embrace their truth , the facts and any consequences when discovered. Telling facts in a creative way similar to the die-under-the cup experiment provides an uninterrupted experience making authentic reactions easily measured . As well as providing a benefit to the audience’s perception and health. Beanie, like other artist, entrepreneurs, medical professionals etc have taken the journey of truth live longer, happier, more enriched fulfilled lives. Further more the people experiencing the stories, food, etc achieve true connection. The rawest consistent behavior of a brand is the key to opening a door otherwise locked. While the population takes steps to explore their new landscape a realization of gaslighting and manipulation is called out and rejected.

Embracing the truth’s brand can be vulnerable, also beneficial to the long term success of the brand. It’s not selling, it’s understanding. It’s not we are telling you what makes you better, instead it’s we are walking with you exploring what makes you, you.

“We swallow greedily any lie that flatters us, but we sip only little by little at a truth we find bitter.”

Denis Diderot
